Why we do this?

About Our Retreats
The Wild Cypress retreats are more than just an escape in Nature. We are a community actively engaged in the ongoing process of untaming our wild selves and explore healing through the lens of restorative & disability justice. We believe that true healing is when the action of healing is inclusive. We aim to foster an welcoming environment where we can talk openly about the things that matter.
We all are dedicated students on this lifelong journey, constantly working to dismantle oppressive structures within ourselves (recognizing internalized oppression) and the systems we navigate (transforming trauma into healing) through restorative justice.
Collective Healing Rooted in Solidarity
Central to our mission is fostering collective healing that acknowledges the unique challenges faced by marginalized communities. We strive to build stronger care-webs, decolonizing and unpacking oppressive structures, standing in solidarity with indigenous spiritual leaders, co-creating strategies to bridge divides and advance equity for all.
Our retreats are a space to explore the power of difference, where participants can learn from each other and work together towards a more resilient community. This involves moving beyond separation towards a future grounded in connection and collective healing.
Growth Through Discomfort
We recognize that true growth often arises from stepping outside our comfort zones. Our retreats incorporate both light and shadow work – delving into uncomfortable truths and the impacts of historical and ongoing oppression. We believe that confronting these realities is essential for true healing and transformation. Through power of reciprocity with the natural world, sensory embodiment and mindful silence, our retreats offer space for you to delve inward, reconnect with your inner wild spirit, and continue your healing journey.
A Welcoming Deaf Ecosystem
At the heart of our mission lies inclusivity. We are deeply committed to supporting the #deafecosystem by collaborating with experienced and certified Deaf holistic practitioners who represent diverse healing modalities and approaches to healing. We are also actively working on sponsors to reduce the participants’ registration fee, so that healing becomes more accessible and affordable.
Experience the Power of Nature
Our retreats take place in breathtaking natural settings, offering a chance to reconnect with the earth's rejuvenating energy. Through activities like:
-
Forest Bathing & Nature Therapy: Deepen your connection with the natural world.
-
Mindful Embodiment & Meditation: Cultivate presence with our bodies through various expressive therapies- movement, dance, yoga, and drumming.
-
Herbalism Workshops: Learn about the healing actions of plants.
-
Reviving Ancestral Knowledge & Skills: Reconnect with traditional & ancestral wisdom and outdoor survival skills.
-
Holistic Farm-to-Table Meals: Nourish your body and soul with fresh, wholesome ingredients.
Beyond the Activities
While engaging activities are important, our retreats are designed to foster a sense of belonging and connection. The Deaf / signing community is so small that it is a true delight to find kindred spirits and connect with them. We believe in the power of community to support mental health and well-being through shared experiences and heartfelt conversations.
This is more than a retreat – it's a call to action and transformation. Join us today on a journey of healing, growth, connection– and building a future rooted in equity, justice, and care.
Funding & Pricing
Our Pricing Philosophy: Rooted in Transparency, Equity & Collective Care
At Wild Cypress, we believe that healing should be accessible—and that begins with transparent pricing and fair compensation for the people who make this work possible.
We include a clear pricing breakdown (see pie chart) so you can see exactly how your contributions are used. From lodging and meals to facilitator compensation and retreat materials, every dollar is thoughtfully allocated to support an inclusive, heart-centered, and high-quality experience.
🤝 Accessibility is Our Mission—and a Collective Effort
While we keep our retreat costs as low as possible without compromising quality or equity, we also recognize that many of our Deaf and disabled community members come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. That’s why we’ve created options to make this experience more accessible:
-
Scholarships and sponsorships for Deaf and BIPOC participants
-
Sliding scale options (based on availability)
-
