This introductory course explores Deaf Culture through the lived experiences and diverse cultural background of Summer Crider. Designed for students beginning DST 101, the content examines the specific frameworks of Deaf Studies while tracing the various cultural environments Summer navigated during her upbringing. Lessons cover the social and linguistic foundations of the Deaf community, the nuances of cross-cultural engagement, and the primary tenets of Deaf identity. By the end of the program, learners will have a grounded understanding of how personal history and cultural diversity shape the modern Deaf experience.
